My name is Stephanie Budhan and I am a chemistry major in the Honors College. I am from Smithtown, NY which is located 10 minutes from campus, so I am a commuter. My interests in science are expansive, thus joining SYBIR is a great way to be exposed to different types of science via literature. Furthermore, I am interested in pursuing research in the future, perhaps in psychology. In my free time, I like developing independent research projects, listening to old Hindi music, and spending time with friends and family.

Through SBYIR, I aim to learn more about different scientific advancements going on in the world and to help further scientific literacy. Outside of SBYIR, I volunteer at the Cancer Center, am a performing member of the Stony Brook Bhangra Team, and was previously a member of 2018 Stony Brook iGEM Team. On the off chance that I have spare time, I enjoy taking naps.

Nomrota Majumder: Managing Editor

Major: Biology
Class of 2021
Hometown: Queens, NY
My name is Nomrota Majumder and I’m a senior Biology major on the pre-med track in the Honors College. SBYIR combines my passion for both scientific research and academic writing, which is why I look forward to everything it has in store for me during college. I’m also a part of Badminton Club and Stony Brook’s South Asian Student Alliance (SASA). In the future I hope to continue to pursue my love for neuroscience and conduct ischemic stroke research on campus. In my free time I enjoy singing, dancing, and watching Friends on Netflix.

Shrey Thaker: Managing Editor

Major: Biochemistry
Class of 2022
Hometown: Smithtown, NY
Being a Scholar for Medicine, my undergraduate focus is not simply to build a resume but to truly pursue opportunities that will help me develop as a scientist and those I genuinely believe can leave a footprint on campus. In my free time, I love learning how to make 3D animations and spending time in the pages of timeless novels. In my downtime, playing video games or hanging out with friends is the fallback plan. The tether that clings me to science is the possibility of expansion and how anybody that has motivation can contribute to the ever-growing trove of information humanity will depend on for its seemingly bleak future. This concept pushes me to continue my own research in the depths of colon cancer prevention and racial health disparity in the Stony Brook Department of Medicine. My drive for science communication parallels my joy in conducting research for the past three years in the Stony Brook Health Sciences Center, and in pursuit of my goal to develop all aspects of a scientist, joining SBYIR was a no-brainer.

Outside of SBYIR, I am involved in psychological research at the Mind-Body Clinical Research Center, am an EMT at Port Jefferson EMS, and TA for classes in various subjects that I have enjoyed (such as economics and applied mathematics and statistics). In my free time, I like to devise crazy spin-offs of “dalgona coffee,” read, go for walks, take pictures, and take naps!
